You’ve probably heard of the construction group Kier. They’re one of the biggest names in the UK and they’ve just reported an 8% profit rise. What’s interesting about this is that even in a year with Brexit uncertainty and the Grenfell disaster, construction firms are still reporting profits, and Kier has said they’re relatively unaffected by Brexit, which goes against what a lot of other UK based construction firms are saying.
Going forward they’ve said they “confident” in generating double-digit profit growth in the current fiscal year but let’s not forget these upbeat comments come from a sluggish performance in 2017 by Britain’s construction industry, especially in private homes. So there is some positive news out there if you look hard enough, but obviously, bad news sells newspapers, so we’ll be expecting more negative stories in the press regarding construction over the coming months.
